Here’s how to get help:
- Talk to Your Academic Advisor: Every student who has declared a major has an assigned advisor. Check Patriot Web under “Student Services.” If you’re still undecided or just getting started at George Mason, check out the Exploratory Advising or Transfer Advising options.
- Visit the University Advising Website: Not sure where to start? Visit academic advising for tools, tips, and contact info.
- Ask a Peer Advisor: Some departments have trained student advisors who understand your perspective. Reach out to your specific school to see how you can connect with a peer advisor.
- Use the Mason Degree Audit Tool: Log into PatriotWeb to check your current progress and build a plan for future semesters. This tool shows which requirements you’ve completed and what’s still missing. As always though, double check with your academic advisor to make sure you’re on track.
Student Success Resources
Success Coaching
In addition to advising services, all students at George Mason have access to Success Coaching. Success Coaches provide support for all aspects of a student’s life, not just academic. This is a great resource for students, particularly for first year and transfer students who are adjusting to college life.
Learning and Tutoring Services
George Mason offers a variety of resources for students, including personalized academic coaching, workshops, and tutoring services – all for free! Academic Success Workshops include topics like studying for finals, college reading strategies, motivation and goal-setting, managing anxiety, and more. Many Mason Core courses are included in peer-to-peer tutoring available for free through Knack.
Writing and Communication Center
The Lab for Writing & Communication offers appointments to help refine your writing and communication skills. This space includes resources and appointments to help with oral communication and your writing process, from brainstorming to final editing.

The Office of Academic Advising provides a complete list of student support services, including academic support, wellness and mental health, and experiential learning opportunities.
